Wedding season is upon us and for a vast majority of ladies out there, what's the first thing that comes to mind?

THE DRESS!

At Knicker Locker we fully appreciate the excitement of making your way down to the wedding dress shop and that amazing TA DAA feeling when you finally find your dream dress. However, nowadays there are so many styles to choose from and we get so carried away we forget - what goes underneath such a gown?

Because we want to help make you feel your absolute best on your big day, we have come up with some top tips and suggestions to help you get it right and reduce any potential bridezilla moments or malfunctions! Let's start from the beginning...

FIRST THINGS FIRST!

Once you have decided on your dream wedding dress, there are a few questions you need to ask:

Questions for the dress fitter

Will I need seamless underwear?
Will I need a strapless bra?
If it's low back or backless - can I use sew in cups?
Will a basque work?

Any finishing touches?

Do I want a garter?
Do I want stockings or hold ups?
If yes to stockings - can I wear a suspender belt?

Once you have established from the wedding dress fitter what will work and what will not, it's time to go shopping! But first, make sure you know your bra size - the last thing you want on your big day is to be feeling uncomfortable. Interesting Fact:

Wearing a garter is supposedly one of the oldest wedding traditions still going, dated all the way back to the 14th Century! It was thought that owning a bit of the brides dress would bring you luck, but due to brides being relentlessly chased and not wanting their dresses to be ruined, the garter was created- a special piece of clothing that could be taken off and given to one lucky guest! If the tradition of the garter is something you'd still like to uphold just remember, the garter should sit just above the knee - just enough so it doesn't fall down and just enough that you don't flash your guests during it's removal!

WHAT LINGERIE SUITS YOUR GOWN STYLE?

To make sure you look your absolute best on your wedding day, what goes under the dress is just as important as the gown itself. Your wedding lingerie can alter the way your dress looks and feels so we want you to get it spot on!

SHEATH

Sheath (column) gowns are usually made of organza or chiffon, making them slightly sheer and gorgeously floaty.

AVOID: Bulges and lines

MERMAID

Help! I'm quite short and curvy - anything that can help?

We suggest:

Try a bustier or longline bra with maximum support and shaping (check the sizing as some may be too long waisted). You could also consider high waisted shapewear, a bodysuit or long leg styles to help smooth out hips and thighs.

The shaping pant works under any outfit. It controls the curves on your hips, tummy and thighs whilst giving you support on the back as well as accentuating the waist and reducing fat rolls under the ribcage.

TOP TIPS TO AVOID DISASTERS ON YOUR WEDDING DAY

Bring the lingerie you have chosen to wear to your gown fittings, bras and shapewear can really change the way a gown hangs on you.
Take note of the colour - with so many different shades of white, you may be better off with an ivory or even a nude colour bra, again take it to your gown fitting to be doubly sure.

We couldn't recommend this tip highly enough - Give your chosen lingerie at least a 1 day trial run, whether it be a basque, shapewear or strapless bra wear it for a full day before your wedding so you can see if any problems occur.
If you're not getting ready at home, take a small separate bag with you to pack your lingerie in. This minimizes the risk of forgetting something or having to root around to the bottom of your suitcase.

THE WEDDING NIGHT

Now you've chosen the perfect dress, stressed out about the seating plan and taste tested so much cake you're now debating whether you actually ever want to see one ever again, it's time to think about the wedding night.
